Trimming & Edging

Smaller lots, front yards with flower beds, sidewalks or detailing jobs require heads that can adapt to different situations. Trimming around brick walls require a thinner line to avoid breakage while edging calls for thicker line to get the job done. The ideal head for trimming around chain link fences has lines that can pivot while larger lots may require a head that can hold more line.

While bladed units are the best heads for large lots with tall grass and light brush, line units are ideal for trimming around fences, brick walls and other solid objects. Most of our heads take different line diameters to adapt to all different kinds of jobs. Smaller line diameters are better for cutting around brick and chain link as it bends out of the way easier than thicker line. When you need more impact power, thicker line will do the trick.

These recommendations are based on the type of job to be performed but the head your trimmer can use will depend on the brand, type and engine size. Make sure you check the Brands Section to see which of the heads listed below your trimmer can use.

Recommended Heads

We recommend the following heads for smaller lots, trimming and edging jobs (click on the link for more information):

• 3630 - Bump & Feed style head. Takes .095 and .105 line.
• 7800 - Bump & Feed style head. No need to remove the spool to load more line. Takes .080 and .095 line.
• 4750 - Multi-Tool. Switch from nylon blades to line (.080, .095 or .105). No need to remove the head off your trimmer to add line or change blades.
• 8010 - Pre-Cut line unit. Comes pre-loaded with 4 really thick .130 lines about 6" in length. Can also take .095 or .105. Line loads in seconds just stick the new line in once the old one wears out.
• 5600 - Pre-Cut line unit. Comes pre-loaded with .095. Can also take .080 or .105. No need to remove the head to load more line. 2 long pieces of line weave through the head to create 4 cutting ends
• 5620 - Pre-Cut line unit. Has 3 pivoting discs to minimize breakage while cutting around solid objects. Each disc takes 1 long piece of .095 trimmer line to make 6 cutting ends. Takes only .095 trimmer line.

Remember:

• Blades should be used on tall grass, tough weeds and brush only. Line units work better on short grass.
• Use different diameters of line for different kinds of jobs.
• Pre-Cut line units use one or more pre-cut pieces of line. There are no spools to bump nor the head will advance more line.
• Use only the blades designed for the specific GrassGator head model. Metal blades (4690) are designed to work ONLY with our brush cutter model 4680. Do not use metal blades on any other GrassGator head.
• DO NOT use bladed units around solid objects.
